Websites 101: Part 2– Key Elements In Your Front End Design

Ever gotten to a web page and blinked furiously at the crazy conglomerate of neon colours, black background or tiny, unreadable writing?

That’s a website design company who didn’t understand the importance of The Front End.

This 101 series on websites gives you everything you need to know to avoid a glaring mistake like… those websites. Last article we discussed how to go about choosing between all the website design agencies out there. After you’ve made that decision, the next important step is getting the front end right.

What’s the Front End of a Website?

The front end of a business website design is the part that everybody sees. It encompasses every page and every product that your customers click on.

The Crucial Key To A Great Front End

One of the most important aspects of the Front End of your website design development is the User Experience. What is this?
User experience is about how easy and enjoyable it is for a customer to use your website. This can be made better or worse by the colours, the layout, the text, even the pictures – a great user experience means a person found what they were looking for in record time.

To ensure a great user experience answer these questions:

– What does your customer want to do when they come to your website?
– How quickly can you get them there, ie: what’s the least amount of clicks it would take to get them there?
– How easy is it for them to understand what they need to click on in order to get there?
– How nice is your website to look at?
– Can a customer easily use your website on their mobile, tablet and
computer?
– What call to action buttons are going to make your customers click?

The answers to these questions will lead you to make decisions about:

– The website design and development (we discuss this next!)
– The page categories (ie: Home | Kids | Mens | Womens)
– The location of your logo
– The media available on your website

Website design companies should walk you through all these crucial questions when helping you to set up your new website.
