Rock Your Email Marketing Campaigns With These 10 Simple Tricks

As hot as social media is right now, it can’t hold a candle to the actual results of email marketing campaigns. Visitors to your site from an email in their inbox are estimated to spend 138% more than visitors from other sources. The problem is, there’s good email marketing and then there’s bad email marketing. Here’s 10 tips to ensure that your marketing campaigns fall into the first category!

  • Do it
If you don’t have a direct email marketing strategy, you need one. While it’s not the one-stop-solution business used to think it was, it’s an integral part to online marketing success. If you are new to email marketing, read our introduction to it here.
  • Clearly Show What Is In It For Them
182 billion emails are sent every day. That’s about 50 emails per email account in existence. The only way you will get any attention is by making your email relevant and important. Concentrate on showing what your customers will get out of reading your emails. Provide helpful, relevant advice or products.
  • The Subject Line Is King
If you have a boring subject line, your email will never get opened. Spend as much time on your subject line as you do with the rest of your email. It is the key to unlocking your customer’s attention. Remember Point 2 – what will they get out of opening your email?
  • Short Is Sweet
Your email should be about providing an overview. No-one has time for anything more. If you’re sharing articles, include only the summary. If you’re sharing products, focus on the image and a one sentence description. Keep it simple, your customers will only give it a 5 second glance to confirm if it holds anything of value for them.
  • Images For Attention, Text For Information
Images are great to get the attention of your audience however some email clients block images. For this reason, use images for attention but always ensure the important information – like prices and links to your website – are written in plain text.
  • Use their name!
If you have their name, use it. It can be inserted automatically through your email marketing software and makes the email stand out. It also confirms your personal attention for your customer.
  • Focus, Focus, Focus
Use your analytics data to discover who are your most loyal and interested email readers. You could even compare emails to find out who is keen on a particular product line or subject. These ‘highly engaged’ people can be turned into a sub-group and targeted with specific deals at opportune times. Less emails, more highly focussed means better bang for your buck and stronger brand reputation. No-one likes getting irrelevant emails!
  • Test and Trial
Experiment with different styles and formats to see which ones receive the better response. Email marketing tools like A/B split testing techniques can help out here. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Just ensure you are always making adjustments based on results, rather than on a whim.
  • Watch Out For Spam Filters!
Don’t let your email get caught a spam filter – it will never be acted upon if it doesn’t even reach the inbox! Avoid spam words and use a reliable campaign software that can guide you through the process of ensuring your emails make it to your recipients.
  • Social Shares
Include social sharing buttons in your email campaigns. We discussed the role of combined efforts in our Online Marketing Triple Whammy article here. Connecting your online marketing platforms into an integrated marketing campaign is the best way to boost sales and customer engagement.
