Generate More Sales The Easy Way: Get Back To Basics

Most people seem to think that their status in life is measured by the number of their friends or connections and likes on their pages and madly rush around trying to increase their numbers.

Just like in your personal world, the rush to add more and more customers to a company database for the sake of ‘looking big’ or important could lose you customers in the long run.

Many entrepreneurs these days have focused their energies on quantity rather than quality. There are many different ways to reach a customer and it’s easy to get distracted by glittery campaigns and visions of ‘viral videos’. But the reality is, if you want to increase your sales, you need to remember and do the basics.

That is, build a relationship with your customer.

  • Go As Personal As Possible
The days of text messages and tweeting is convenient, fun and quick but it leaves a big gap between your communication and the client’s actual life. Think about the methods you use to connect with a customer and try to go as personal as possible. Don’t email when you could call. Don’t text when you could email.
  • Assess your customer’s needs
You need to listen to what the customer is saying. Some sales people are so intent of “doing it right,” or following their spiel, they become deaf to what the customer is actually saying. Ask the right questions. Never presume that you know your customer really well.
  • Don’t Stop At The Sale
The worst practice is to leave your customer after you’ve got what you wanted from them. Do a review of your after-sales care. Implement strong after-sales follow up and connection. It’s cheaper to get a repeat customer than a new one so any time and effort spent in this is well worth it!

  • Focus On Your High Value Customers
We know it’s not possible to care 110% for every single customer. So don’t! Choose your top 20% most valuable customers and develop a personalised connection plan with them. You will get maximum returns on your efforts by focusing on your VIPs.
  • Get Real Feedback From Customers
One of the most important things you can do for the success of your business is to solicit real feedback from your customers. This can go further than just a survey after they bought a product. Consider calling customers who bought from you and solicit feedback about their experience. You may want to hire a third party to do this for objective results.
  • Keep Up With Social Media
Social media can be a great place to show personal attention by simply replying to every comment or message you receive. Just be careful that you don’t equate the number of likes or friends that you have with actual sales or success for your business. If you want to tie the two together, here are examples of 5 Facebook campaigns that really worked.

When you’re new in business, it can be difficult to sell your product or service but the key is to continue to focus on those high value customers and work on your process. Eventually you will discover a winning combination and the type of client who is ready to buy from you!
