iPad Mini Review, How does it stack up?

If you were like most of the public interested in the first offering of iPad Mini’s you loved the way it fit easily in your bag but hated the resolution of the screen.

We’ve got good news for you.

The 2013 iPad Mini retains all the great features of the original version, including long battery life and portable size and weight with a wonderful addition; high resolution retina display. If you’re looking for the best tablet on the market, this is it!

The Low Down

  • Price: from $399
  • Available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB
  • A7 processor
  • 2048 x 1536 7.9-inch Retina display
  • Battery time: 10hrs (wifi) 9 hours (cell tower)
  • 802.11n dual-channel Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0

What We Love

  • It doesn’t get faster than the A7
  • Beautiful pictures on a screen with high resolution
  • Easy to carry around and still so light!

What We Don’t Love

  • Change in size means it might not fit your accessories
  • They upped the price!

The Details…

Style

Essentially the style of the iPad mini is the same as the first one. The most notable change is in the casing; it’s now a space grey rather than a black. The size and weight has increased slightly as well but nothing to worry about; .3mm thicker and 29 grams heavier. It’s still a delight to hold and easy to use with one hand. Finally, the iPad mini boasts an additional microphone input to cancel out background noise. Both FaceTime and Siri are now easier to use, even in public spaces.

The Screen

The biggest change for the iPad mini is the retina display. Comparisons to the original version show the fine detail now visible on the screen; photos and videos are crystal clear and going back to an older version makes you feel like you need glasses! The pixel resolution has doubled since the original version which is an amazing feat when the dimensions have remained so similar.

Additional Stuff

We’re loving the add-ons that allow greater isolation of sound for users. For those techies out there it comes with new capability in the MIMO arena for the Wi-Fi atenna ensuring you’re more reliably connected to Wi-Fi from greater distances.

Operation

Between the A7 processor and the M7 coprocessor, the iPad mini packs a punch when it comes to power. Any sort of activity you want to throw it; particularly creative ones like the editing in the iMovie App or taking photos.

Battery

Providing longer battery life with greater resolution is a difficult task but Apple managed to pull it off, still delivering 8-10 hours of battery life putting it far in the lead of its competitors on this characteristic.

Accessories

The iPad mini comes with two types of cases; the Smart Cover and Smart Case. The cover is lighter, protecting the screen while the Case goes around the entire product and makes it a little thicker.

And The Verdict Is…?

The day of the iPad Mini has finally arrived, offering full screen resolution with appropriate processing power. Don’t be put off by the premium price… if you’ve ever considered buying a iPad mini, the 2013 version with Retina display is the one for you.
