Don’t Miss Out! 8 Ways To Boost Your Christmas Sales With PPC

Christmas is a great time for PPC campaigns. There are lots of people searching for Christmas gifts online and lots of companies advertising on Google to sell their products to these Christmas shoppers. How do you ensure you stand out in the crowd during the upcoming holiday season, below are our tips.

1. Set up your campaign early

People start searching for Christmas presents in September. It’s now the end of October so you better get on it! Get onto your keyword research and writing your landing pages and advertisements as soon as possible. If you haven’t set up your campaigns yet, now is the time to do them.

2. Schedule your ads to finish the last day you can reasonably ship goods

You can’t send anyone their Christmas presents on the 23rd December so make sure you’re not still paying for clicks through to your website that aren’t going to turn into conversions. Also, it looks tacky and unprofessional to be running seasonal ads in April. It’s highly important in your pay per click management plan that you schedule your campaigns to finish rather than leave them running indefinitely.

3. Go Mobile

Nearly half of all searches for last minute Christmas presents this year will be done on a mobile device, according to Google. Set up a mobile specific campaign, tick the High-End Mobile/Tablets option and ensure the landing page is mobile optimised!

4. Check Whether You Should Be Increasing Your Budget

If you are hitting your ROI goals (ie: getting the amount of sales from your current PPC advertising budget) consider lifting the lid off the campaign. In some cases you can double your sales and then the extra cost will have been worth it. To find out how many sales you might be missing, add a metric called ‘lost IS (budget)’. This metric tells you how many Impression Shares (IS) you missed out on because of the budget limit.

5. Create Specific Landing Pages

The best page for your landing page is not your home page. If you’ve created a buzz around a particular product, direct your customer directly to that product. They can click on your home page if they want the bigger picture. The Pay per click marketing algorithm also likes different landing pages so you’ll have greater chance of your advertisement ranking higher. Your landing pages need to be holiday specific. Ensure they mention Christmas deals and shipping freebies and any other method you are using to take advantage of the big Christmas shop.

6. Check Your Competitors

Your offers are only as good as when compared to your competitors. 2 for 1 or %-off deals may be good but if your competitors are offering the same or better you won’t convert many sales and may lose money. Prepare for the fact that your competitors will offer different value to what they usually do so ramp up your Competitor Research and stay on the ball with your pay per click advertising methods.

7. Use SiteLink Ad Extensions

AdExtensions are fairly new for Google adwords management. They add additional sitelinks underneath your current campaign, directing customers to more than one page on your website. Even if you are directing browsers to a specific landing page, including other products or a specific ‘Christmas’ site on when advertising on Google will increase their chances that they will find what they’re looking for… on your ecommerce store.

8. Don’t forget Post-Christmas Sales
In the hastiness of Christmas, don’t forget that January is also one of the biggest months for sales in the year. Plan your new PPC campaigns so that they are ready to go on boxing day even while you are sitting back with a beer. Cheers to pre-scheduling huh?
