Is your website getting you the results you want?

Is your website not getting you the results you thought it would?   If you thought it would be easy to set up your own website and then spent days figuring out the ‘step by step’ system of the free website builders, you’re not alone.  If you’re like other business owners who tried the same method, you probably hate the design now but don’t really know how to fix it.  Or perhaps you caved and transacted someone to do it for you but now you can’t update your website without them charging you ridiculous sums of money!

We don’t want to sound obvious, but, well, it may be time for an overhaul.

It’s pretty clear that every business needs a website.  What isn’t so clear is why.  Without knowing why, businesses create websites that don’t actually help them.  In fact, some of them are so bad they turn customers away.

There is so much more to a website than simply a few pages of information.  If you’ve been focusing on ‘just getting one up’ you’re missing out on the full potential of a website to engage customers and grow your business.

What are the factors that make up a powerful website?

The Power of Good Design

Design tells your customer who you are.  The feel of your website will determine whether a customer stays interested as much as what you are actually selling does!   If you’ve already tried to make your own design, you’ll know how difficult it can be.  Contracting in professionals who know what they’re doing will net you thousands in revenue when the website is up and running.

The Power of Effective Content

Website copy (the words on your webpage) works hand in hand with design to convert visitors into customers and generate income for your business.  However, it’s not easy!  Writing website copy is different from both sales copy and article copy; visitors to your website have a short attention span and need the right information quickly.  Understanding how this works is also a specialist skill.

The Power of Online Marketing

Having a website no one visits is like setting up a lemonade stand in the middle of a desert.  Maybe people want your product but they don’t know you exist!  Marketing pushes your website to the people who want to buy from you, either through traditional methods like flyers and radio or through newer methods like SEO and social media.  Making cost effective decisions about who to reach and how is something you need expert advice on.

The Power of a Content Management System

Stuff changes in your business all the time and a good website will reflect that.  A ‘content management system’ is the software program that allows you to easily update the information on your website.  It’s easy to use, similar to Microsoft Word; anyone in your business could be responsible for updating it regardless of how tech savvy they are.  A content management system means you don’t need to pay a lot of money every time some small aspect of your website needs updating.

All of the above require expert skills and a desire to put the power back into your hands when you want it.  Complete Cloud websites do this; all are set up ready for online marketing campaigns and designed using our years of experience around what really works.

Let’s check out the difference a new website could make in your business by following a day in the life of Brian.

Brian without New Website

When he started out, Brian spent five days working out a ‘do it yourself’ version of his website.  He finally managed to get it finished but he’s not happy with the design.  There’s something wrong but he can’t really say what.  He wants to change the font but the system wouldn’t let him.  Until he can get it fixed, he didn’t really tell anyone about it.  He can never find it when he uses Google to search for his products and when he asks new customers how they found him they rarely mention the website.  No one’s ever sent him an email from the contact screen.  He thinks maybe he should update the words on the front page but isn’t sure how and can’t remember the password to the software anyway.

Brian with New Website

Brian handed out five business cards last week, encouraging people to check out his new website, so proud of its design is he.  So did his employees.  And even a customer!  The next week an enquiry came through the contact form and over time it even started to show up for some keywords around his product!  Every week he jumps online to check the Google analytics information.  His marketing guy changes the featured product on the home page every week through the content management system.  Brian noticed last week that heavy grade piping got a lot of clicks.  Maybe they should run a sale on that item next week…

Who Is Brian?

Brian is our fictional character who owns a business wholesaling electrical tools.  He has five employees in sales, administration and logistics in a small office in an industrial park.  None of his employees know that sometimes on the weekend he goes rollerblading.
