Habits of the World’s Wealthiest People (Infographic)

According to the 2013 Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report, there are 32 million millionaires all over the world, 42% of whom live in the U.S. and 39% who live in Europe.

But the 2013 wealthiest people in the world are billionaires:

  • Carlos Slim Helu (Telmex) – $73 billion
  • Bill Gates (Microsoft) – $72 billion
  • Amancio Ortega (Zara) – $57 billion
  • Warren Buffett (Berkshire) – $58.5 billion
  • Larry Ellison (Oracle) – $43 billion

Why are these people so rich? What has made them so successful compared to the vast majority of people in the world? It turns out that the everyday habits of the rich and famous are very different from those who are poor.

NowSourcing, a social media marketing company, developed an infographic that shows why rich people are – well – rich:

  • 81% of rich people maintain a to-do list compared to only 9% of poor people.
  • 44% of rich people wake up at least 3 hours before going to work as opposed to just 3% of poor people.
  • 79% of rich people network 5 or more hours each month compared to only 16% of poor people.
  • 86% of rich people love to read while only 26% of poor people do.
  • Almost 75% of rich people just watch 1 hour or less of TV everyday while less than 25% of poor people watch 1 hour or less of TV. However, more than 75% of poor people watch reality TV while less than 10% of rich people do.
  • 76% of wealthy people do aerobic exercise 4 days a week.
  • Almost 100% of poor people consume at least 300 calories of junk food per day as against less than 75% of rich people.
  • 67% of rich people write down their goals while 80% focus on accomplishing a specific goal. This is opposed to only 17% of poor people who list their goals and only 12% of those among poor people who focus on accomplishing a specific goal.

Now you have to remember that putting these habits into practice will not necessarily make you rich but hey… there’s no harm in trying!

As a way to encourage you, here are some facts you may not know about the richest people in the world:

  • Carlos Slim Helu
    – He has lived in a 6-bedroom home for the past 40 years because he does not want a bigger house where “you don’t see your family.”
    – Although he has a convoy of bodyguards always following him closely, he always drives his own car.
    – He does not travel widely and has no home outside of Mexico.
    – He never remarried after losing his wife of 33 years to kidney failure in 1999.
  • Bill Gates
    – He has restricted his wife and three children from using all Apple devices.
    – He is active on Twitter but not on Facebook “because the friend requests got out of hand.”
    – He once predicted that users would never need more than 640 kilobytes of memory on their PC.
    – He told university professors he would become a millionaire by 30 and managed to reach billionaire status at the age of 31.
  • Amancio Ortega
    – He wears the same thing to work every day.
    – He eats at the company cafeteria.
    – He lives with his second wife in a discreet apartment building in La Coruna, Spain.
    – He is fiercely private and has only granted interviews to three journalists ever.
  • Warren Buffett
    – He bought his first stock at age 12.
    – He filed his first tax return at 14 having already made $1,000.
    – He considered quitting investing in his early 30s.
    – Despite his riches, he doesn’t own a sports car or a private island.

So it seems rich people live life much the way the rest of us – as they want to. How would you live if you had a few billion dollars in the bank?
