9 Ways Successful People Increase Their Productivity – Part 2

We waste so much time on entertainment and social media every month. If you’re running a small business this unproductivity is not just ‘down time’. It’s actually costing you money and possibly keeping you from the things in life that you do enjoy, like spending time with your family.
Here are four more ways to increase your productivity.

  • Outsource
You need to outsource tasks that are not critical to your business. Use sites such as oDesk, Elance, Freelancer, etc. You can hire people to do your other tasks, starting with a few dollars an hour for data entry up to higher but reasonable rates for experts in other fields.

Outsourcing is basically delegating tasks to other experts whom you pay with affordable fees. You get more things done and you are able to concentrate on the core functions of your business.

  • Take time to rest
When you’re working towards a deadline, you may think working 8 to 12 hours straight will help you get more things done. Not so. If you don’t let your brain rest and recharge, you won’t be able to focus and produce high quality work. You are not productive when you’re tired.

You’re not effective if you work 80 hours a week but are only effective for 40. If you think it’s hard to find time to plan, think about how much time you are losing now by not resting.

  • Time Plan
All of us have a peak time and down time. Schedule high-value work during your peak time and low-energy work such us checking your email and returning phone calls during your down time.

Most people are more effective in the morning. However, many of us spend mornings, usually checking emails. Before you check your email in the morning make sure you’ve already accomplished at least two tasks.

  • Rejuvenate
Take regular breaks every one or two hours. If it’s hard for you to stop working, set an alarm to remind yourself that it’s time for a break. Have some coffee or go for a quick walk.

If you find you are really stressed, take time to do something that will relax you. Exercise. Maybe, just meditate or take up yoga. How about starting a hobby or a sport? Then again, maybe you can just spend time with your family at the park or at the mall.
Successful people are not rich or successful by luck or accident. They have managed their time well and know what to prioritise. Everybody can do the same thing, you just need to be patient and have the willpower to follow your time plan consistently every single day.
